Umbilical Hernia

When a portion of the intestine protrudes through the tear in the abdominal muscles close to the navel (belly button), it is known as an umbilical hernia.

Paraumbilical Hernia

The most frequent kind of umbilical hernia in adults is an indirect hernia (paraumbilical), which protrudes above or below the umbilicus.

Causes Of Umbilical Hernia

When the gap in the abdominal muscle that permits the umbilical cord to pass through does not completely closes, an umbilical hernia develops. In adults, an umbilical hernia typically develops when an area of the abdominal muscles that is weak is exposed to a lot of stress Possible reasons include:

being overweight and having several children, having many pregnancies (twins, triplets, etc.),abdominal surgery for excessive abdominal fluid, having an intense, persistent cough

Symptoms Of Umbilical Hernia

Protrusion in or near the navel that often increases with work, lifting, or coughing, Effort or discomfort at the hernia location,Constipation,A strangulated hernia can cause severe stomach discomfort and vomiting, which is an emergency.

Complication Of Umbilical Hernia

The umbilical hernia has two primary problems, which are as follows: This can lead to Obstruction of the intestine, being caught outside the belly and causing nausea and vomiting as well as chronic discomfort.

Strangulation: This happens when a section of the intestine or intestines sticks out of the belly and loses blood flow. In case to release and recover it, it needs to be operated on soon. If you don’t, the tissue can get incarcerated, which could lead to infection

Laparoscopic Umbilical Hernia Repair

Patients will be given general anaesthesia for the laparoscopic procedure. They will create 3 to 4 keyholes on the abdomen. They will insert a laparoscope, a narrow tube with a tiny camera on the end. The surgeon repairs a hernia and applies mesh to the hernia and with a laparoscope as a guide.

Open Umbilical Hernia Repair

In open hernia repair, a small incision is made at the hernia’s location, and mesh is then used to reinforce the abdominal wall and sutures are used to permanently close the hernia. The muscle layer will subsequently be closed using sutures.
