COMPLICATIONS OF GALLBLADDER STONE

Untreated Gallbladder Stone may lead to severe Complication,

which Include:

  1. Gallbladder Inflammation (Acute Cholecystitis)

Persistent blockage by gallstones can lead to severe pain, fever, nausea, and vomiting, often requiring urgent treatment.

  1. Recurrent Gallbladder Pain (Biliary Colic)

Repeated episodes of severe upper abdominal pain, especially after fatty meals, affecting daily activities.

  1. 3. Chronic Cholecystitis

Long-standing gallstones cause repeated inflammation, leading to a thickened and poorly functioning gallbladder.

  1. Bile Duct Stones (Choledocholithiasis)

Gallstones may migrate into the bile duct, causing jaundice, itching, dark urine, and pale stools.

  1. Bile Duct Infection (Cholangitis)

A serious infection of the bile ducts characterized by fever, chills, jaundice, and abdominal pain. This condition needs emergency care.

  1. Gallstone Pancreatitis

Gallstones blocking the pancreatic duct can lead to acute pancreatitis, causing severe abdominal pain and vomiting.

  1. Pus Formation in Gallbladder (Empyema)

Untreated infection may lead to pus collection inside the gallbladder.

  1. Gallbladder Perforation or Gangrene

Severe inflammation can cause rupture of the gallbladder, leading to peritonitis, a life-threatening emergency.

  1. Mirizzi Syndrome

An impacted gallstone presses on the bile duct, causing obstructive jaundice.

10.Gallstone Ileus :

Cholecystectodudoneal Fistula, where there is a communication between the Gallbladder and the Duodenum which leads to migration of stones into Small intestine causing small Bowel Obstruction,

  1. Gallbladder Cancer (Rare)

Long-standing gallstones slightly increase the risk of gallbladder cancer.
