Diagnosis
Most colorectal problems are confirmed by direct examination of the bowel lining. Endoscopy and colonoscopy are performed by the same specialist who would carry out the surgery, so nothing is lost between the diagnosis and the plan.
How the surgery is done
Colorectal resections are performed through laparoscopic keyhole access or with robotic assistance wherever it is safe. Open surgery is used when open is the safer call, and the reason is explained to you beforehand.
